Prize Giving Ceremony 2019


The Primary School Tamil Teachers Union in Collaboration with the International Association of Tamil Teaching and Learning held a prize giving ceremony on Wednesday 5th June 2019 at the seat of the Tamil League, Reduit. For the Primary School Tamil Teachers Union this is an annual ceremony in which students who scored grade 1 in the Tamil Language in the previous PSAC examination are rewarded. This year 180 students who scored grade 1 in Tamil Language for the PSAC examination were gathered in the ceremony.

The Primary School Tamil Teachers Union in Collaboration with the International Association of Tamil Teaching and Learning held a prize-giving ceremony on Wednesday 5th June 2019 at the seat of the Tamil League, Reduit. For the Primary School Tamil Teachers Union, this is an annual ceremony in which students who scored grade 1 in the Tamil Language in the previous PSAC examination are rewarded. This year 180 students who scored grade 1 in the Tamil Language for the PSAC examination were gathered in the ceremony.

 

Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation, The Honorable Mr. Yogida Sawmynaden and Minister of Education & Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research along with the Honorable Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun graced this ceremony with their presence on that day. At around 10hr am approximately one thousand people gathered at the Tamil League stood up with respect for the Mauritius National Anthem and the Mother Tamil Anthem. 

    

After some cultural programs the actual president of the Primary School Tamil Teachers Union, Aya. S.M Vyapooree delivered his speech on the importance of the Tamil Language to the audience. After this associate professor, Dr.J.Chemen also addressed the audience centering his speech on Spoken Tamil Langauge. Following these two speeches the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation, The Honorable Mr. Yogida Sawmynaden and Minister of Education & Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research, The Honorable Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun were both invited to deliver their speeches respectively.  

              

The president of Primary School Tamil Teachers Union, Aya S.M Vyapooree and the treasurer Mrs. Siroumai.A.Coolen Murugasa Pillai were both offered a trophy for the great contribution into the Union itself and for the promotion of Tamil language and Culture by members of the PSTTU. For the first time this year, the Primary School Tamil Teachers Union presented a shield to some retired teachers for their great contribution for the promotion of the Tamil language and Culture. Mr. Chathan Chellen, Mrs. Lechmee Amasay, Mr. Goinsamy Govinthan, Mrs. Vijayantee Devi Appasami, Mrs. Sarojini Arumugum, Mrs. Sarasspadee Calinghee are names of the retired teachers awarded for their merits. Just after this, a special award was presented to Mr. Vishagum Pillay for his great contribution for the promotion of the Tamil language and immeasurable help towards the Union. After these awards, the HSC laureates of the year 2018 namely (), SC students and PSAC students who scored grade 1 in the Tamil Language were awarded and shield and a book for their hard work and dedication.       

                  

      

The PSTTU which to thank their sponsors namely Mauritius Tamil Temples Federation, International Association for Tamil Teaching and Learning, Tamil League, Mr Nadess Goundan and Company, Mr Adee Ramsamy (Wire link), Mr Renganaden Vyapooree, Mr Ruben Ramasawmy, Mauritius Tamil Cultural Centre Trust, Kistnah and Sabrina Kistnen, Dr. Vel Durmoo, Tamils.mu, Mr. Ruben Mootoosamy (Hotel and Restaurant Sailors), Murugan Foundation, Agi decors and catering services, Mr. Pallany Narayanan and Amma Devi Appalsamy without whom this function would not have been a success.

We would like to thank our executive members namely Mr S.M Vyapooree, Mr. P.Cheenaramen, Mrs S.A.Coolen Murugasa Pillai, Mr .A.Mootoo, Mrs M.Vyapooree, Ms. P.Veerapen, Mrs. V.Veerapen, Ms.P.Coolen Armoogum, Ms. V.Poinasamy and all other members of the PSTTU without whom this ceremony would not have been a success.
